Why We Do It

More than 80% of the rubbish found on K’gari is washed in by the ocean, not left behind by visitors.

With the help of 500+ volunteers since 2018, we’ve removed tonnes of rubbish from the iconic 75 Mile Beach. That means fewer microplastics, safer wildlife and a natural heritage kept as pristine as possible. Home to plenty of lakes,  animal species and vegetation types, K’gari is vital to our ecosystem and culture. We can’t wait for you to be part of protecting this extraordinary island, now and for future generations.

The Eco Warriors Behind Keep K'gari Clean

"The future of life on earth depends on our ability to take action."
David Attenborough

We’re a team of passionate local residents who believe caring for K’gari isn’t optional, it’s essential.

Since 2018, we’ve stood alongside the Butchulla people to protect this World Heritage listed island, hosting 11 official beach clean ups and welcoming over 500 volunteers to help remove tonnes of marine debris from the iconic 75 Mile Beach.

What started as a handful of locals rolling up their sleeves has grown into a community driven movement, and we’re only just getting started. Get to know the people and the story behind the project.
